Meet Halyards

We're bridging the gap between social science research and everyday experiences to unleash human potential. We help people learn to harness their motivation, realize their potential, create greater meaning, experience more wonder and awe, and contribute to others' growth and wellbeing.

"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again."

ABOUT

What's in a Name?

A bit of background information for the landlubbers among us: a “halyard” is a rope used to raise the sail on a sailboat. So is this some sort of nautical society?

Not exactly.

We’re a bit obsessed with human potential and the role of motivation in understanding and fulfilling it. The approach taken on the Halyards platform draws heavily on the work of famed psychologist Abraham Maslow–and several other positive and humanistic social scientists. Over the past few years, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs has been given a bit of a facelift, and we particularly like the Sailboat Metaphor as a model for conceptualizing potential and growth.

So that's what's with the name! Our toolkit empowers a growing community of people raising our growth and flourishing sails–and helping others do the same.
